I ran a night match for the first time and it felt like a completely different sport

Shooting in the dark changes everything. You are dealing with flashlights, weapon lights and trying to identify targets in partial light while moving. Everything I thought I understood about competition shooting had to be adjusted. It was easily one of the most challenging and interesting match formats I have experienced.

It’s wild how different your brain processes everything when you’re trying to manage a bunch of light sources at once, it usually takes a few matches before you stop feeling so awkward out there.

In my first night match, I totally lit up my own legs trying to fumble with the flashlight. And naturally, I missed the steel target completely. The dark really does change everything out there.
