I'm hoping to get some advice on the best line weight for snagging. I've been doing some research, and honestly, I’m getting a bunch of different opinions. At first, I thought a lighter test like 25 or 30lbs would be good enough. What do yall typically use for snagging? And why do you prefer a heavier or lighter line?

I'm definitely a fan of using heavier line when I fish. I usually go for at least 50 lb test, and sometimes I even bump it up to 80 lb braid. It’s especially necessary when I’m after bigger fish or if the current is pretty strong and there’s a lot of debris around. Snagging can be tough on your gear, and lighter lines just won’t hold up when you’re battling through the water or dragging your line over rocks and logs.

I usually go for a heavier line, typically around 40-50lbt. I've noticed that this extra weight really helps when I encounter those tricky snags. There's nothing more annoying than feeling that tug and then losing a catch because your line just couldn't take it. A heavier line gives me that added confidence, knowing I can power through those tough spots. Plus, it’s less prone to fraying, which is a huge advantage when you're up against sharp snags. Sure, it might be a little tougher to cast, but for me, the peace of mind and better chances of landing a big one make it totally worth it.
