I'm on the hunt for a reliable scope for deer season, ideally under $300. Anyone have experience with scopes that hold zero and offer good clarity when spotting game? I'd love to hear your suggestions.

I've had good luck with the Bushnell Banner and Vortex Crossfire II, both hold zero well and give clear optics...and yes, they are under 300, last I checked

I ttally agree, those are both reliable scopes that deliver clear optics and hold zero well

Leapers UTG Scopes...Yes, I know the "they are for air soft" comments and even UTG say that, BUT I have been running a UTG scope on my old .308 for over 5 years. First bought because it looked sturdy and thought it would be a great stop gap while I convinced my wife I needed a better scope :) . Here we are today, and that same 12x UTG still holds up. I have had it out in the single digits, rain, heat and humidity. Figure if it finally gives up the ghost, I may just buy another... I could spend more, but unless I am outfitting my Christensen, sturdy and non-sexy wins the day...

Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 is solid for under 200 bucks, clear glass and holds zero even after bumps in the field. Mount it low on your rifle to avoid cheek weld issues.

UTG 3-12X44 30mm Compact Scope, AO, 36-color Mil-dot, Rings , Black[/H1] - $178/Amazon ... Change out the mounting rings.

I've run a Simmons Whitetail Classic for years on a .270. Cost me about $200 and it's survived rain, bumps, and travel.
Glass isn't premium but plenty good for legal light.
