Road Trip with a Gun

Planning a trip to visit family and trying to figure out the best route. I want to bring my firearm, but driving through New York makes that a bit complicated. It feels like avoiding NY would add a ton of extra drive time, so I’m really weighing my options. I’ve heard some folks share their experiences navigating this kind of thing, so I’m curious what you decided to do. Any advice would be helpful.

For NY lock your unloaded gun in a trunk case ammo separate to follow FOPA rules. I take I-80 through PA adds 2 hours but no hassle. Keep a copy of the law handy just in case.

NY has this reputation for not really sticking to FOPA protections, especially in NYC. It's kinda frustrating. Even a quick stop can get some travelers into a heap of legal trouble. It just seems unfair.

Do you have a permit or follow your local permit less? Makes a difference as well.
