What to Avoid Wearing at the Range

I've been thinking about what to wear when I go to the range and wanted to see if anyone else has some thoughts on it. Not talking about full setups or anything, just your everyday clothes.

After a few trips, I noticed something odd: a lot of folks wear camo, and I can't help but think it looks a bit much, especially for just running basic drills or a few mags through the rifle. I get wanting to look the part, but it feels a little overkill when you're not in the woods hunting.

Lately, I’ve been sticking to neutral colors—jeans, a plain shirt, boots. It seems more practical and comfortable, plus it doesn’t scream “I just walked out of a tactical gear catalog.” And obviously, no sandals or flip-flops because that’s just asking for trouble.

Is it just me? Am I overthinking what’s appropriate? I mean, it’s the range, not an op, right? I’d love to hear what you guys wear when you’re just out there having a good time.

You're not overthinking it. I usually wear jeans or cargo pants, a plain t-shirt, and sturdy boots. Comfort and safety come first and Camo's fine for hunting, but at the range it's not necessary, just keep it practical and safe

I were the same clothes to the range that I wear every day at Home. Whatever is comfortable to shoot in. Sometimes t-shirt and jeans of a long sleeve shirt. I don't like tight jeans or anything baggy to ketch on the bench seat. Just be yourself and have a good time.

I usually just wear jeans and t-shirt. Some folks might wear what wear hunting to see if there are any issues with stock placement or snagging or other such issues.

HaHa I know times have changed and all, and yeah, im probably getting into "old fart" territory, but ill never forget living in Baltimore, Maryland, back in the late 90s......I was taking care of my grandfather, a WW 2 vet, and had rode up from Texas on my 1972 Harley chopper. 12" over springer front end, 38 deg. rake, it was long and lean. After being there a few weeks, I was getting the itch to shoot. Closest shooting range was 120 miles away, on National Park property. So I ride out there, and theres a boy scout troop shooting 22s. A few of the boys came over to see my bike, but the scoutmaster was horrified of me, long hair, bandanna, black leather jacket........I recall later, he said I looked like Charles Manson.........anyway, I had a couple big Smith revolvers that day, and a 1911 in the saddlebags. By the end of the day, any of the boys who wanted to got to shoot 357 revolvers and a 1911. We had a blast.
